A Friday Night Steel match consist of 3 stages, made up of steel plates of differing sizes and placed at various distances to create a variety of challenges. The shooter is positioned within a shooting box and, upon the beep of the timer, draws their pistol and shoots each plate the prescribed number of times.

The score is the combined time of the 3 runs per stage and that time added to the combined times of the other stages for a final match score. The Lewis Class System is used to determine prize distribution in each division. Payouts are based on the number of competitors in a particular division, shooters can enter multiple times if desired.
