We have a few volunteers to monitor range operations but not nearly enough to add more days or to even to be thinking about opening on week days until we get plenty of help which has been very lacking. It's your Rifle Range ladies and gentlemen, please support it to keep it open at least on the weekends. Please contact Mike Spradlin (513-729-1827)Chief Instructor/Chief Range Safety Officer, or Jon Beyer (513-661-8929) FSA Trustee, to volunteer.

Skeet Ammunition Primer
Only #9 and #8 lead shot shells can be used on FSA's skeet fields for safety reasons. #7-1/2 size and larger (6, 4, 2, etc.) CANNOT be used. Also steel shot CANNOT be used. Obviously NO slugs EVER!

Rules of Thumb:
1. The shells you hunt with normally cannot be shot on the Skeet Fields.
2. High brass shells are normally an indicator of hunting loads, not Skeet Loads.
3. If you don't know what new shells or reloads you have don't use them on the Skeet Fields without approval of the Skeet Manager on duty.

FSA has shotgun target loads (12ga, 20ga, 28ga, and 410) available for sale at the Trap House and the Skeet House during Sunday and Friday open shoots.

If you'd like more information on what Skeet loads may be best for you and your gun, stop by our Open Shoots on Friday evenings or Sunday mornings. We have a lot of seasoned shooters that would love to help you out. Make sure you bring your gun - we'd love to have you shoot with us!

New Shooters Welcome
If you have not shot Skeet before or you just haven't shot enough to
feel comfortable shooting on a squad of your peers, we'd be glad to
help you get started or improve your scores. You can contact Mike Rahe
at 513-405-4405 or stop by the Skeet fields during our Friday evening
or Sunday morning Open shoots for more information.

Concealed Carry Renewal
On Jan. 8, 2004, former Ohio Governor Taft signed HB 12, authorizing Ohio sheriffs to issue licenses allowing private citizens to carry concealed handguns.

Four years have passed since the first of us obtained our concealed carry licenses, and we are approaching our first renewal. As you read through this, the process for renewal is almost identical as our initial application procedure. There are some things we need to keep in mind when we renew our licenses. I am sure there will be many questions about the renewal process. All of the information contained below plus other specifics for new Ohio residents, active and retired Law Enforcement and Military personnel can be found on several Sheriff's Department web sites, along with other Internet sources.

The Ohio Concealed Carry Handgun License can be renewed 90 days prior to the expiration date, and no later than 30 days after the expiration date that is printed on your license. If you fail to apply for renewal within this 120-day period, the Conceal Carry Handgun License will expire and will no longer be valid. You will need to fill out the renewal application (same form as the original) only difference is checking the box marked renewal. This is available your Sheriff's Department, or at the Ohio Attorney General's website www.ag.state.oh.us. After you have the application, clearly print all required information on the application. (Note: the Attorney General's web site contains an interactive version of the application, which is good for those of us with bad handwriting!) Do not sign the application until told to do so, which is usually done at the sheriff's office you are applying at. Failure to include all requested information will result in the Sheriff's Office refusing to accept the application. Be sure list phone numbers on your application where you can be reached when your license is ready to be picked up.

Remember your Firearms Training Certificate? In addition to your application, you must have a copy of your Certificate that shows you have completed the course within the past six years, and contain your name as well as the name and phone number of the instructor and/or location where you received the training.

On your initial application your original was kept by the Sheriff’s Office where you first applied so they will have your copy on record there.

You will need a copy of your certificate only if you will be applying for a renewal at a different Sheriff’s Office other than the one you originally received your first license from.

Once again, you will need to complete the "State of Ohio Application for a License to Carry a Concealed Handgun Form", and attach a legible copy of your original competency certification (not older than six years), or a renewed competency certification (not older than six years) to the application. So if you can find your original or legible copy of your certificate you are in good shape.
If not you will have to make arrangements and attend a whole new 12-hour class (State of Ohio minimum) and get a new affidavit from a CCW Instructor authorized and licensed to teach in the State of Ohio. An alternative is to show an affidavit from the same kind of instructor that you have attended and completed the necessary renewal training; which basically all you have to do is retake and pass the NRA Basic Pistol Exam and show competency with a firearm by doing a full two hours on a range again.
Most of these instructors have a new form or certificate that says renewal on it somewhere in their logo.

Another passport photo? Yes! A color photograph of your face (2" x 2" max size) taken within the past thirty days will be kept with your application and will not be returned to you. What else do I need to know? Since the passage of HB347 last year, the renewal cost has increased to $55, up $10 from our initial license, but the renewal period has been changed to five years instead of four.
